Monarch Butterfly Grove

An enchanting part of California’s natural history is the Monarch Butterfly migration. Located off Highway 1 in Pismo Beach, you can find a beautiful grove of eucalyptus trees inhabited by these breathtaking butterflies. The best time to spot these delicate creatures is between January and February!  They will be fluttering their wings in the warm sunshine or huddling together in groups of hundreds hanging from the tree branches in the shade, trying to keep their bodies warm.  California State Parks offers guided tours with volunteers and has telescopes available to see these beauties in great detail and learn about their migration, feeding and breeding as they move up the coastline of North America.
